A company’s finances are its lifeblood. Money flows in and out daily. Someone has to track it, chase after customers who owe it, and pay invoices to suppliers who’ve provided essential services.
That’s why there are so many jobs in finance at the junior and intermediate levels. Like Accounting Clerks. Accounts Payable and Receivable Managers. And the Bookkeepers who tally the money coming in and being paid out.
While there are many more types of jobs in finance, here are descriptions of the ones above along with average salaries for each in Canada.
Performs accounting activities such as maintenance of the general ledger and preparation of various accounting statements and financial reports. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent with 0-3 years of experience in the field or in a related area. However it’s helpful to have a college diploma in a finance-related field.
Starting at around $29,000 a year, up to the high $30,000’s annually. If you are doing temp work, such as being on call for one of the many Personnel agencies, your rate may range from $15 - $20 per hour. View Accounting Clerk jobs
Accounts Payable Manager
Responsible for all activities in the accounts payable function. Ensures timely payments of vendor (supplier) invoices and employee expense vouchers. Maintains accurate records and control reports. Manages a staff of administrators/clerks and typically reports to the controller. May require a bachelor's degree in a related area and at least 7 years of experience in the field.
On average, annual wages are from $50,800 all the way up to $67,000 a year. This figure can actually be as high as $76,000 in some major Canadian cities. View Accounts Payable Manager jobs
Maintains and records business transactions such as sales and expenses. Balances ledgers and prepares financial reports that show the inflows and outflows of a company’s funds. Collects receipts and invoices, recording their exact amounts in tables using bookkeeping software. May require an associate's degree or its equivalent with 2-4 years of experience in the field or related area.
